Dr. Randy Wykoff named as Distinguished Overseas Professor by School of Public Health Guangdong Pharmaceutical University in China

Dr. Randy Wykoff, Dean College of Public Health and Dr. Liang Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Biostatistics recently visited the School of Public Health at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (GDPU) in China. GDPU, established in 1958, has over 38,000 students and almost 1500 faculty.

In addition to exploring potential opportunities for collaboration between their colleges, Dr. Wykoff and Dr. Wang were invited to speak to the students and the faculty of the College.  Dr. Wykoff, who had been invited as a Distinguished Overseas Professor, spoke about “Re-Thinking Public Health in Tennessee” and “Opportunities to Work Together to Improve Public Health in Tennessee and in China.”   . Dr. Wang, who coordinated this trip and who has been leading discussions about potential collaborations, gave a presentation on “How to Write a Good Scientific Publication in Public Health”.

Dr. Wykoff and Dr. Wang had several discussions with Yi Yang, Dean School of Public Health about a range of potential collaborative programs, including programs that might encourage students at GDPU to pursue graduate training at ETSU.  They also explored collaborations in common areas of research interest, and possible programs to support visiting faculty.  Dr. Wykoff and Dr. Wang also met with other leaders at GDPU including Vice President Si-Dong Chen, Director International Exchange and Cooperation Office Hongyun You, and Project Assistant Foreign Affairs Office, Tao Lan.
