Interdisciplinary team awarded seed grant for work with the HIV/AIDS population

Drs. Sean Fox and Jonathan Peterson, as part of an interdisciplinary team from the Colleges of Medicine, Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, and Public Health at East Tennessee State University, have been awarded a seed grant for work with people living with HIV/Aids.  The study entitled “Evaluating differences in microbial fermentation profile, microbiome composition, dietary intake, CTRP3 protein concentration and liver profile of HAART HIV/AIDS and non-infected age matched individuals” received $10,000 from the ETSU Center of Excellence in Inflammation, Infectious Disease and Immunity’s HIV Pilot Grant Program.

Additional members of the team include Dr. Mary Andreae and Dr. W. Andrew Clark, along with graduate student Kaitlyn Webb of the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, and Dr. Jonathan Moorman of the Quillen College of Medicine.

Projects receiving funding from the Center’s HIV Clinical Core must involve HIV infection and/or related complications.  The Center hopes to expand research that positively impacts the well-being of individuals with HIV.
