College of Public Health Alumna Receives Auburn University Accolades
Dr. Courtney Haun, two-time alumna of the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, was recently awarded two awards for her doctoral student work at Auburn University. Dr. Haun was one of six outstanding doctoral students to be recognized with the Auburn University Graduate School's Distinguished Dissertation Award for her dissertation.
Her dissertation, “An Examination of the Influence of Nursing Resources and Policies on Care Quality Outcomes,” presented three studies, each with the purpose of extending our understanding of the nursing market and the role that geographical location of nursing resources and nursing workforce improvement policies characteristics play in creating positive (or negative) care quality outcomes.
“There has never been more important of a time than now that I appreciate my public health degrees from ETSU's College of Public Health,” stated Dr. Haun. “From my doctoral studies to navigating the COVID-19 context, the education gained in the bachelor's and master's programs prepared me to conquer and thrive.”
In 2014, Dr. Haun graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with concentrations in both Community Health and Health Administration from East Tennessee State University. She completed her Master in Public Health in Public Health Administration, also from East Tennessee State University, in 2016. She received her PhD in Public Administration and Public Policy from Auburn University in 2019 and currently serves as an assistant professor and the director of the Healthcare Administration Undergraduate Program at Samford University.
“One of the greatest pleasures of working in higher education is following the success of your alumni,” stated Dr. Randy Wykoff, Dean of the College of Public Health. “Dr. Haun is a wonderful example of an alumna who is excelling, even at this early stage of her career. I look forward to following her many successes for years to come.”
Dr. Haun also received the Auburn Women of Distinction Awards. This award honors women who demonstrate exemplary leadership abilities, lead with heart, create innovative solutions to the world's most challenging problems and inspire and uplift the entire Auburn Family. The Office of Inclusion and Diversity honored women leaders who awaken the passion for success of those around her. These women encompass the ideals of a successful leader, radiating a demeanor that compels others to do the same.
“I am a proud alumnae and will always be grateful for my time at ETSU, the relationships built while there, and the knowledge that I have been able to utilize,” Dr. Haun continued. “I extend a sincere thank you to the faculty and staff in the College of Public Health. Would I complete my undergraduate studies and master's program studies again at ETSU? You bet!"
