Jennifer Hunt Elected to the American Association of University Professors
Jennifer Hunt, Clinical Instructor in the Department of Health Services Management and Policy in the East Tennessee State University, has been elected as Secretary for the Tennessee chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
The American Association of University Professors is a nonprofit membership association of faculty and other academic professionals. Headquartered in Washington, DC, it has members and chapters based at colleges and universities across the country. Since its foundation in 1915, the association has developed standards and procedures that maintain quality in education and academic freedom in this country's colleges and universities. It defines fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, advance the rights of academics, particularly as those rights pertain to academic freedom and shared governance, and promote the interests of higher education teaching and research.
The Tennessee Conference of the American Association of University Professors provides services to its constituent colleges and universities and to the state as a whole, and strives to protect the rights of all faculty members in Tennessee public and private institutions, whether they are full-time or adjunct, tenured, tenure track, or non-tenure track. It attempts to help government officials, the media and the general public understand the importance of higher education in helping students become more competitive in a global economy and more capable of exercising their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and to convey the vital role that faculty plays in achieving those goals.
“I am very excited to serve in this capacity with AAUP,” stated Ms. Hunt, “and am fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to collaborate with other college and university faculty across the state.”
