COPH Graduate Students and Faculty Highlighted in Illuminated Magazine
Several College of Public Health faculty and students were highlighted in the School of Graduate Studies’ recent publication, Illuminated, a magazine that focuses on graduate student research at ETSU. Additionally, Illuminated provides profiles of students who recently graduated.
This issue features work by Anthony Peluso, Master of Public Health student with a concentration in Community Health. Anthony is advised by Dr. Katie Baker, Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health. Their work with health promotion and disease prevention, especially the five-year social media grant project, TN Health Chat, is featured in an article entitled “Social Media and Health Promotion.”
Yang Chen, Doctor of Public Health student with a concentration in Epidemiology, and Dr. Liang Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, have studied the prevalence of the Hepatitis C Virus in the United States. The article, “The Epidemiology of Hepatitis C” covers Yang’s research for her dissertation. She presented her research at the Appalachian Student Research Forum and the Tennessee Public Health Association. Since finishing her degree, Yang has accepted an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education fellowship position with the Chronic Viral Diseases Branch at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The magazine additionally highlights the 2016-2017 Research Grant Award Recipients. Master of Science in Environmental Health student Reem Tariq and her faculty advisor, Dr. Phil Scheuerman, received a Research Grant Award for their work with “Comparative Analysis of Survival and Decay of Fecal Indicators in Bovine and Porcine Feces.”
Illuminated is the work of talented ETSU graduate students. The interviews were conducted and written by Sara Howard, a Master of Public Health student with a concentration in Epidemiology.
