Alumnus Dr. Bernard Kerr, Jr. Receives Faculty Distinguished Service Award for Central Michigan University

Dr. Bernard Kerr, Jr. is the winner of the Central Michigan University 2015 Faculty Distinguished Service Award.  He is a Professor in the Health Administration Division, School of Health Sciences, in The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. 

Dr. Kerr received his BS in Health Education from East Tennessee State University in 1971 and served as an instructor in the Department of Health Education at ETSU from 1975 to 1982.  His academic credentials also include a master of public health, a master of health administration,  a master of business administration and  a masters of information management, and a doctor of education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction and the Instructional Process.

Dr. Kerr has been a member of the Central Michigan University faculty since fall 2002, following his retirement as a Colonel from the United States Air Force Medical Service Corps.  He was a recipient of CMUs 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest teaching honor bestowed by the university.  He has held faculty appointments at Baylor University and served as a Fellow and Senior Fellow with the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (currently the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education).  
When discussing his recent award, Dr. Kerr stated, Whenever I receive such recognition, I reflect on the fundamental skills and the commitment to being a servant leader that was instilled in me at ETSU, especially by John Lamb and Jay Allen.  Dr. Kerr is a board certified health care executive and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He resides in Belleville, Illinois, with his wife Sue. They have four children and six grandchildren.
