Dr. Ying Li Chairs Symposium at the Society for Risk Analysis Annual Meeting
Dr. Ying Li, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health of the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, chaired a symposium at the 2017 Society for Risk Analysis Annual Meeting in Arlington, Virginia. The symposium was titled “Integrated Health Impact Assessment for Air Pollution and Global Climate Change in China.”
Health Impact Assessment is an integrated, risk-based analysis framework for policy formulation. When applied to the field of air quality management, a Health Impact Assessment often incorporates multiples sources of information including input-output analysis, emission inventory estimation, air quality modeling, exposure assessment, exposure-response assessment, and economic valuation. China has been suffering from severe air pollution for several decades, and is experiencing a changing climate, which could further worsen air quality.
The symposium included four presentations on Health Impact Assessment for air pollution and climate change in China including indoor and outdoor air pollution, mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants, the effect of trade on mercury deposition, and the impact of climate change on health.
The interests of the Society for Risk Analysis include risk assessment, risk characterization, risk communication, risk management, and policy relating to risk to human health and the environment, both built and natural.
