Environmental Health Alumnus Named 2019 Outstanding Alumnus

 

Dr. Lillibridge

The East Tennessee State University National Alumni Association recognized College of Public Health alumnus, Dr. Scott Lillibridge as the 2019 Outstanding Alumnus.  He was also chosen to speak at the University-wide commencement ceremony on May 4, 2019.  Dr. Lillibridge earned a B.S. in Environmental Health under his collegiate mentor, Dr. Monroe T. Morgan, while also completing his prerequisites for medical school.  Upon graduating in 1977, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and served as an environmental science officer in the Medical Service Corps.  He subsequently earned his M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Lillibridge is currently senior medical advisor for the International Medical Corps, a United States-based nongovernmental organization with activities in more than 30 countries.  Prior to this position, he was director of the Center for Global Health and Innovation for Texas A&M’s AgriLife Research, which focused on population health, bioinformatics and medical technology.  He also taught in Texas A&M’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, where his research was part of a national effort to develop and manufacture vaccines to address pandemic influenza and other public health threats.

In addition to serving on numerous advisory boards and committees such as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine.  Dr. Lillibridge also held a series of progressively responsible positions with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including Founding Director of the Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Program and Program Director for Emergency, Refugee and International Health.
