College of Public Health Graduate Student Receives Rotary District Scholarship
Ifeoma Ozodiegwu, doctoral student in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, has received the Rotary District 7570 Skelton Scholarship.
Rotary District 7570 Skelton Scholarships, which are named for the late Bill Skelton, former district governor for Rotary District 7570 and president of Rotary International, can be used to fund one year of post-baccalaureate study at a recognized university in a country other than the USA or Canada. Applicants must be planning studies that lead to sustainable, high-impact outcomes in one of the following six areas of focus: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development.
Ms. Ozodiegwu’s scholarship award will fund her dissertation research and related educational expenses. After nomination by College of Public Health faculty member, Dr. Hadii Mamudu, Ms. Ozodiegwu submitted a research proposal, interviewed with local and district rotary scholarship committees and completed a scholarship grant application with the Rotary Foundation. Her public health research focus is maternal and child health.
“The application process that Ifeoma successfully completed is an excellent example of Ifeoma’s drive and initiative,” stated Dr. Claudia Kozinetz, chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. “We are proud to have Ifeoma in the College’s DrPH program.”
“I am especially grateful for the extensive support I received during the application process,” Ozodiegwu said. “Many thanks to Dr. Hadii Mamudu for the nomination, Dr. Megan Quinn for writing me a recommendation letter for the scholarship, Mrs. Tamara Ridenour, the Chair of the Rotary District 7570 Scholarship Committee, for her guidance during the scholarship grant review process with the Rotary Foundation, and other members of the local and district rotary scholarship committee for their essential feedback.”
