Dr. Quinn Selected as Graduate Studies Outstanding Mentor
Dr. Megan Quinn, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, received the School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Mentor Award.
In the nomination packet, it was noted that Dr. Quinn “watching students grow and develop through their graduate programs and has played a role in many students’ career decisions. She empowers her students by challenging them to utilize their skills in real-world settings. She embraces students’ ideas and invites them to authentically contribute to their communities.”
Julie Obenauer-Motley, DrPH student, when asked about the nomination, stated, “I am thrilled you nominated Megan for this…I can’t say enough about how much she has been a mentor to me.” Beth O’Connell, DrPH candidate, commented, “She is deserving.”
Dr. Quinn has been previously honored for her public health initiatives around the world including the countries of Haiti, South Africa and Nicaragua as well as her service to her own community in her capacity as Grants Chair for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tri-Cities Tennessee Affiliate and as Childhood Cancer Chair for the Northeast Tennessee Region of the Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Coalition. Her professional achievements include journal articles, professional publications, presentations, and grant support from the East Tennessee State University Research Development Committee. As a member of the College of Public Health faculty, she has been honored with the Faculty Service Award and with Dean’s Recognition for her work on the Recruitment and Retention Task Force. She was recognized with the 2015 Young Alumna of the Year from Wesleyan College.
