Dr. Wang and Dr. Alamian elected Fellows of the American College of Epidemiology

 

Dr. Liang Wang and Dr. Arsham Alamian, Associate Professors of Epidemiology in the ETSU College of Public Health, have been elected Fellows of the American College of Epidemiology.

The American College of Epidemiology was incorporated in 1979 to develop criteria for professional recognition of epidemiologists and to address their professional concerns.

The American College of Epidemiology serves the interests of the profession and its members through advocating for issues pertinent to epidemiology, a credential-based admission and promotion process, sponsorship of scientific meetings, publications and educational activities, and recognizing outstanding contributions to the field.

Promotion to Fellow recognizes significant and sustained contributions to epidemiology.  Dr. Wang’s research has focused on obesity, nutrition epidemiology, health disparities, health education and promotion.  His research focuses on obesity, nutrition epidemiology, and health education and promotion. Dr. Wang has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers (e.g., International Journal of Epidemiology), book chapters (e.g., International Journal of Epidemiology), book chapters (e.g., International Encyclopedia of Public Health, China Blue Book on Obesity Prevention and Control). He has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple grants (e.g., NIH, PCORI).

Dr. Alamian focuses his research on the epidemiology of chronic disease, as well as the epidemiology of behavioral risk factors for chronic disease. He is a co-investigator on an interprofessional research grant recently awarded to ETSU by the National Institute on Drug Abuse for the study of prescription drug abuse and misuse in Appalachia. He has been investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health and state grants on pediatric obesity, metabolic syndrome, and biomarkers for chronic liver disease.
