Recent Awards for the Medical Library
The Quillen medical library recently received much-deserved recognition from its regional professional organizations!
Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association annual conference, 2016, Charleston, SC
- Nakia Woodward, Senior Clinical Reference Librarian, received the Academic Librarian of the Year award from the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association. This award is presented to a mid-career academic health sciences librarian who has made outstanding contributions in leadership, publications, research, and service. As a result, Nakia also will be nominated for the national Estelle Brodman Award for the Academic Medical Librarian of the Year.
- Kelly Loyd, librarian and Document Delivery Coordinator, received a First-Time Attendee Scholarship on the strength of her personal statement of what she expected to gain professionally by attending the conference.
- Beth Wallace, Library Assistant and current LIS student, received an LIS Student Scholarship also based on her statement regarding what she hoped to gain by attending the conference.
Southeastern Library Association, 2016 SELA/Georgia COMO Joint Conference, 2016, Athens, GA
- The Quillen Medical Library received the Outstanding Southeastern Library Program Award recognizing our rural health information outreach work, specifically our service at Remote Area Medical free clinic events. Library team members set up informational booths at these events to provide free, high-quality, patient-oriented information to clinic patients on topics such as stress reduction, smoking cessation, exercise, and various health conditions.
- Sue Knoche, Library Assistant, received the SELA Cheerleader Award for her enthusiasm and dedication contributing to and promoting SELA.
