Phased Reopening of Library Building Begins July 13
As of Monday July 13, the Medical Library will begin the next phase of its reopening plan. Access to the library basement level will be restored for visitors from medicine, pharmacy, and physical therapy who have card swipe access authorized.
Hours: 10 am to 6pm, Monday through Friday
Visitors may enter using their ETSU ID badge with swipe strip; enter via the card swipe door at the bottom of the ramp on the front side of the building. If you believe you should be authorized for access but your card does not work during the hours above, contact Rachel Walden at waldenrr@etsu.edu with your name, college, status (faculty, staff, or student), and E number.
There will be no night/weekend or unstaffed hours during this phase of reopening.
Online services from the Medical Library, Biomedical Communications, Academic Support, and Information and Educational Technology will continue to be available. Please see this prior post for contact details for our many services. Individuals needing personal consultations should continue to schedule those via Zoom or other remote means.
Steps We Have Taken:
- Library staff will relocate a temporary service desk to the basement. Staff will be available to answer questions as well as to monitor for masks and perform extra sanitizing throughout the day.
- Computers and printers have been moved to the basement to ensure access.
- Furniture has been spaced out so seating is as lest six feet apart. Staff will monitor that furniture remains appropriately spaced.
- Placement of chairs at study tables have been marked to ensure the chairs are in the correct position to maintain distancing. Placement of tables, large chairs, and sofas has also been marked on the floor to help staff ensure furniture remains as placed.
- Overall seating capacity of the basement level has been reduced.
- Signs have been posted indicating couches, some tables, and all study rooms are for use by a single person only.
- Signs promoting social distancing have been placed in the basement.
- Handwashing is available and encouraged via two single-person restrooms and the kitchenette sink.
- A hand sanitizer station has been placed just inside the entrance door.
- The exercise room has been closed temporarily.
- The water fountain has been shut off temporarily.
Support from Library Visitors:
We need visitors to maintain the following standards of conduct in order to help minimize risk.
- Always wear masks, which are required on campus.
- Practice frequent handwashing and/or hand sanitizer use.
- Be conscientious of remaining at least six feet from other library users.
- Adhere to guidance that only one person at a time use study rooms, couches, and the kitchenette area.
- If you have your own supply of sanitizing wipes, please use them after making contact with tabletops, kitchenette (refrigerator/microwave/faucet handles), printers, vending machines, or other surfaces.
- Avoid moving furniture or removing tape marks on tables or the carpet.
Accessing print library materials:
The majority of the library’s print collection cannot currently be accessed by visitors. To request to borrow a book or to receive a scan of a journal article in the library’s print collection, email quillenill@etsu.edu to request your item. For articles, you will receive a scanned copy within about 24 hours. For books, a staff member will get in touch with you and arrange a time and way to get you the book. Please provide ample time for us to fulfill your requests, as limited staff will be available in the building on any given day.
For questions, please contact Associate Dean Rachel Walden at waldenrr@etsu.edu.
