KICk Your Paper Habit With the New KIC Scanner
The QCOM Medical Library is now the proud owner of a Knowledge Imaging Center (KIC) scanner. The scanner is located in the first floor lobby.
This is a "no funds required" scanner available for general, public use. The overhead
scanner is great for scanning large or fragile books, tightly bound journals, and
historical materials. It can handle virtually any size book, magazine, journal, newspaper,
photo or other material from postage stamp size up to 11 x 17 inches in black and
white, grayscale, or full color. You can scan and save files to a USB drive (recommended
for multiple, color pages) or email the scanned to yourself.
This scanner should also be more accessible than traditional models as: the scanner
bed height and the equipment set-up are accessible from a wheelchair; there is reduced
physical handling of heavy books due to the face-up scanner bed (no lifting needed
to turn pages); it has options to create more accessible file types, such as using
OCR and audio output.
More information about the features of the scanner is available at the following link
- http://www.dlsg.net/kic-bookeye4.html - and library staff are available to aid with use.
Funds for this scanner were provided through an ETSU Technology Access Fee grant.
