New System for Finding Items in the Library
The following quick tips will get you started; please see a library staff member for more in-depth training:
- The new system is shared between ETSU, Northeast State Community College, and the MSHA Learning Resource Center, so it contains items from all of these libraries. To limit your results to materials owned or subscribed by the medical library, click on the "Library Collections" tab and choose ETSU Medical Collection from the drop-down menu.
- The OneSearch tab searches across many sources, including both the library holdings and several databases. It will return books and journals when you do a search, but also individual articles and other materials. You can see what sources are being searched by looking at the Collection section on the lefthand side, under "Refine My Search."
- Please note that OneSearch does *not* search all of the databases available to ETSU medical personnel, and will not allow the use of advanced syntax specific to individual databases (such as MeSH terms or [tiab] limiters in PubMed). For certain work, such as systematic review searches, it will still be important to search the individual databases themselves.
In general:
- The OneSearch tab can be a good tool for searching when you are looking for anything on a topic.
- The Library Collections tab may be more efficient when you're looking for whether the library has a specific book or journal available (in print or online).
- You can still log in with your ETSU username and password to view and renew your checked out items.
- The medical library's homepage has been updated with search boxes connected to the new system, so you can still perform your ebook and ejournal searches directly from our webpage.
