Medical Library Research Poster Wins Second Place in SC/MLA Research Awards
A medical library poster has won the second place research award from the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association.
The poster, "Reexamining Campus Research: An Analysis of Study Methodologies," was
presented at the 2016 SC/MLA meeting in Greenville, SC. Nakia Woodward - along with
Emily Weyant, Kelly Loyd, Rick Wallace, and Rachel Walden - has been looking at the
levels of evidence and types of methodologies used by ETSU researchers. A review of
ETSU-affiliated citations in the PubMed database was conducted. Two ETSU administration-designated
peer institutions were analyzed for comparison. The researchers discovered that ETSU
aligns very favorably with their designated peer institutions in regards to amount
of research produced and the types of methodologies used. Future plans for the research
involve a comparison with aspirational peer institutions to inform production goals.
Ultimately the researchers hope to use this information to determine additional ways
the library can support ETSU researchers in achieving high levels of evidence for
their investigations.
