Meet Gabrielle Hall (’24)

Meet Gabrielle Hall (’24), from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Her rotation was at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga with preceptor Dr. Karen Babb.
What does your day look like on rotation?
On this IPPE Rotation, I spend each day in a new position within the pharmacy. I had
the opportunity to experience a day in Surgery Pharmacy, Chemo Pharmacy, MICU, CCU,
ED, Opioid Stewardship, Order Verification, Pharmacy Consults, Medication Reconciliation,
and Hospital Floor Rounds. Each day is a new experience, and it has given me a chance
to see most of the positions that CHI Memorial offers to its pharmacists.
What is something unique about this rotation you might not experience elsewhere?
CHI Memorial uses an integrated, decentralized pharmacy model for their staff pharmacists.
This allows pharmacists to rotate through the various positions it has to offer. It
minimizes the burnout that tends to occur for pharmacists who are assigned to the
same tasks every day, and also keeps pharmacists up to date on the requirements every
position they might be asked to hold on a given day.
What did you learn from this experience?
Rotating through an institutional pharmacy has given me the opportunity to apply the
knowledge I have gained up to this point. It highlighted areas where my knowledge
was lacking and taught me how to think on my feet to come up with an accurate response
to questions I did not know the answers to in a timely fashion.
Why did you choose Gatton?
I chose Gatton because of the family atmosphere that was extended to me in meetings
with student affairs prior to applying as well as during my interview. It seemed like
the students were genuinely happy with the environment they were learning and growing
in. As President of the Student Wellbeing Committee, I hope to continue to foster
that same healthy and happy environment for both our current and prospective students.
