Gatton College of Pharmacy group takes home national award

JOHNSON CITY Approximately 100 of East Tennessee State Universitys Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy students are celebrating a national victory after their chapter of the Kappa Psi organization was named the Most Improved Chapter in the country last month.

Kappa Psi is the oldest and largest professional pharmacy fraternity.

In early August, the ETSU chapter earned the Most Improved Chapter award for the district, which is made up of 18 different chapters. Less than two weeks later, it was named the national winner, beating out the top chapter from each of the other 10 districts located throughout the United States.

The competition is based off a rubric that measures the amount and extent of the chapters community service, philanthropy and scholarship involvement. The chapters participation and leadership in regional, state and national profession activities is also measured.

Members of the ETSU chapter have worked with philanthropic events including the American Cancer Societys Relay For Life, the Salvation Armys Angel Tree program and a Veterans Association benefit. They have also hosted service events including medical awareness classes and breast cancer awareness activities.
