ETSU leads community roundtable on opioid abuse

East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy and Center for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment hosted a roundtable discussion on Tuesday morning for key players in the community, as well as ETSU faculty, on the topic of opioid abuse, prevention and treatment. Angela Hagaman, director of operations for the Center for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment, led the discussion on many topics including treatment, education and ways to better engage the community.

“We started this conversation talking about connection, relationship and empathy,” said Hagaman, wrapping up the discussion. “We are doing many things successfully, but we now have the opportunity and resources to improve current connections and provide support to new partners such as schools, law enforcement, and business owners in our region.”
