Meet Whitney Blessing ('25): Rotation at Pinney's Prescription Shop

Whitney Blessing

Meet Whitney Blessing (’25), from Kingsport, Tennessee, served a rotation at Pinney’s Prescription Shop in her hometown. Her preceptor is Dr. Spencer Pinney.

Learn more about her experience:

What does your day look like on rotation?

On a normal day of rotations, I was able to help count prescriptions, answer phones, assist the pharmacist and technicians in daily task, and administer immunizations to patients. During times that were slow, I was able to learn more about the medication adherence packaging, compounding, e-care plans, and MTM services that the pharmacy offers.

What is something unique about this rotation you might not experience elsewhere?

Pinney’s Prescription Shop is unique because they really make sure to include their students in learning opportunities and patient interactions. From a student aspect, everyone was very welcoming, friendly, and always answered any questions I had. Everyone was supportive of me as a student and encouraged and guided me in my learning. Pinney’s strives to give quality and patient-centered care to every patient that comes to the pharmacy. I would highly recommend this rotation to every student because it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

What did you learn from this experience?

I was able to learn more about the day-to-day workflow in a community pharmacy, behind the scene paperwork, and I was able to use the information that I was taught in class and apply it to a clinical setting.

Why did you choose Gatton?

I chose Gatton because of the opportunities that Gatton offers students and the family atmosphere that is displayed. Gatton makes every student feel like they are welcome, heard, cared for, and supported in their journey to become a pharmacist.
