The ETSU Outdoor Adventure consists of the following programs and facilities: Team Building at the Basler Team Challenge & Aerial Adventure Course, Buc Bikes, Climbing at ETSU, Adventure Trips including the Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure program, and Outdoor Adventure Equipment Rental.
Team Building - Basler Team Challenge & Aerial Adventure Course
The Basler Team Challenge & Aerial Adventure Course is a low and high ropes course experience where mental and physical problem solving activities are designed to create group challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Programs can range from two hours to four hours. Activities can include a variety of low ropes challenge activities and the high rope Aerial Adventure Course, and the Climbing Tower which has rappelling capabilities and zip lines. High adrenaline activities such as the Giant Swing and Quick Jump can also be included. Goals of the challenge course experience are to: work together as a team, develop communication skills and trust, and the challenge and application of learning and observations, as well as to have fun! The Buc Bikes program is a partnership with ETSU Sustainability to provide bike and cycling education to the campus community. Borrow a bike for the day, rent a bike for a week or month, or get your bike repaired at the Buc Bike Shop or at a Bike Fix-it station. Click here for the Buc Bikes webpage.
Climbing at ETSU
The ETSUs Outdoor Adventure program offers indoor / outdoor climbing and bouldering opportunities. The impressive new 44 foot Outdoor Tower at the Basler Team Challenge & Aerial Adventure Course boasts climbing, rappelling, and bouldering for all skills levels! The CPA is home to the Indoor Climbing Wall that has multiple route 40 foot climbing routes to enjoy with bouldering availability. A valid ETSU I.D. is required to participate in Open Climb. Outdoor Adventure Trips - Get out there!
The ETSU Campus Recreation Outdoor Adventure (OA) program offers a variety of outdoor activities, trips, and skill clinics. We are committed to providing enjoyable, challenging, and affordable programs that allow participants to learn skills necessary to safely enjoy the outdoors. Our goal is that these experiences will develop attitudes and behaviors that foster connectedness to the environment, the Earth, and to one another. Click here for more OA trip information.
Buccaneer Outdoor Adventure (BOA)
The BOA program is a unique outdoor experience for new freshman at East Tennessee State University. The scenic Appalachian Mountains, as well as ETSU's campus, will be explored via fun outdoor activities led by Campus Recreation staff. The BOA mission is to provide first year freshman a unique transitional experience into the university setting, with the opportunity to develop friendships, leadership skills and an appreciation for outdoor recreation and Leave No Trace ethics. The objectives of the BOA program are to help students gain confidence, build relationships, explore the East Tennessee geographic region while engaging in outdoor activities, and establish a special connection to ETSU. Outdoor Adventure Equipment Rental
