Students residing in select bordering counties in North Carolina and Virginia may attend ETSU at the in-state tuition rate, and they may be considered for certain in-state scholarships. Students must reside at an address located within the following counties:
- North Carolina: Ashe, Avery, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey
- Virginia: Grayson, Lee, Scott, Washington
ETSU’s Freshman Academic Performance Scholarships are available to eligible students who meet the ACT and SAT requirements and who submit a complete application for admission by March 1. Applications after March 1 will be considered for scholarships as funding is available. Students who are participating in another program which covers out-of-state tuition (including but not limited to Academic Common Market, Public Performance Scholarship, or Honors-in-Discipline) are not eligible. Classification for the in-state/ border county tuition rate is determined at the time of admission.
