A former field-grade officer in the U.S. Army's Chemical Corps and Assistant Professor of English at West Point, Norma Honaker returned to her home in southwestern Virginia and joined the ETSU faculty in 2009. Her research interests explore both the autobiographies and representations of female soldiers and military wives in the nation at war. In 2016, she participated in the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute “Veterans in Society: Ambiguities and Representations.” Honaker routinely teaches late British and early American literature, and she brings the skills of researcher and analyst in the federal government to the freshman composition classroom. Recipient of the 2014 Patricia E. Robertson Diversity Leadership Award and the 2013 Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award, she works with students throughout the university community.
