Dishon Smith has been a performing artist and educator in the TriCities area since 2005. Dishon received the Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Bryan college and the Master of Music in piano pedagogy from the University of Tennessee. He has been a guest artist with the Southern Adventist University Orchestra and the Maryville College Orchestra. He maintains a private piano and voice studio in both Johnson City and Abingdon, VA.
Dishon has served on the faculty/ staff at Providence Academy, King College, Northeast State Community College, and Emory and Henry College teaching music appreciation, applied piano, fundamentals of music, theatre arts, high school and middle school chorus, and also accompanying, coaching voice students, and directing and music directing productions.
As a theatre artist, he has worked with Glasgow Theatre Company, Jonesborough Repertory Theatre, Johnson City Community Theatre, Wohlfhart Haus Dinner Theatre, and Barter Theatre. He currently serves as the resident music director at Barter Theatre where he music directed and arranged music for Barter at the Moonlite shows during the 2020 and 2021 season. Some other favorite Barter credits include White Christmas, The Producers, La Cage aux Folles, Church Basement Ladies, Madame Buttermilk, and The Bridges of Madison County.
