Lieutenant Colonel Kent Monas hails from the town of Waynesburg located in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. Kent is a Christian, blessed with a wonderful family, and honored to serve his country as an Army Officer.
He was commissioned through Army ROTC at the Virginia Military Institute in 2004 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Aviation branch, Kent completed flight training, dunker, and survival school at Fort Rucker, AL. He was then assigned as a Platoon Leader with 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. Kent deployed with the 82nd as a Scout Pilot, flying the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Helicopter in Iraq 2006-07 supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and in Afghanistan 2009-10 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He then served as a Scout Helicopter Troop Commander in 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment in the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) at FT Riley, KS. Kent received a second Command with F Company, 1-1 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, which consisted of MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aerial Systems (equivalent to the Air Force Predator). He deployed F Company to Kuwait and Iraq in 2015 in the fight against ISIS as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. Kent next attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he received a Master’s Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies. He was then assigned as the Operations Officer of 1-229th Attack Recon Battalion at Fort Lewis, WA and deployed to Afghanistan flying the AH-64E Apache Helicopter in 2017. His most recent combat deployment was in 2019 as the Executive Officer for 1-58th Airfield Operations Battalion, an air traffic control unit, supporting counter terrorism efforts at remote airfields throughout the Horn of Africa. Lieutenant Colonel Monas currently serves as the Professor of Military Science at East Tennessee State University. Kent attributes his Christian Faith to the success and protection he has had throughout his life and gives all glory and honor to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
