The East Tennessee State University community is saddened to learn of the death of Rev. C.H. Charlton. Rev. Charlton was an open, warm, inviting and uplifting individual who always made those around him feel welcome and valued. He was a strong supporter of education throughout his life and a longtime friend and supporter of East Tennessee State University, a role which included his service as a member of the inaugural Admissions Committee of the university’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. Rev. Charlton’s impact on Johnson City through his ministry as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church for more than four decades and his service as a member of the Johnson City Commission, Board of Education, and Regional Planning Commission will continue to be felt for years to come.
