Intermountain Brain Injury Conference to be hosted by Professional Development
JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 29, 2020) – The 14th annual Intermountain Brain Injury Conference, “Special Topics in Brain Injury,” will be held at East Tennessee State University on Friday, March 6, at the Millennium Center.
Sponsored by the ETSU Office of Professional Development, the conference begins with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and features sessions on a variety of topics throughout the day until 4:45 p.m.
Scheduled speakers and their topics include keynote speaker Dr. Katherine Gifford, assistant professor of neurology at Vanderbilt University, on “Concussion: From Diagnosis to Management” and “Traumatic Brain Injury: Cognitive, Behavioral and Emotional Consequences”; Laurel Farrell, attorney, on legalities of protecting a person with a brain injury; and Johanna Philipson on the treatment of brain injuries in Sweden. In addition, Fredda Roberts of the Crumley House will share a “Survivor Story.”
Several organizations and individuals are involved with this community-planned conference. In addition to ETSU’s Office of Professional Development, planners include the university’s Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and Department of Physical Therapy, along with Roth Neuropsychology and Behavioral Health Associates, the Crumley House Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center and Milligan College’s Department of Occupational Therapy.
The $125 registration fee ($55 for students with ID) covers breakfast, lunch and breaks. General continuing education units and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association continuing education hours are available.
