JOHNSON CITY (May 7, 2020) – Dr. Robert Pack, executive director of East Tennessee State University’s Addiction Science Center, will moderate a panel discussion, via webinar, on how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting efforts to address the opioid crisis.
The webinar, which is part of the 2020 Association of Schools & Programs of Public
Health (ASPPH) Virtual Annual Meeting, will be held on Friday, May 8, from 1-2 p.m.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has complicated efforts to address the United States’ opioid crisis with a comprehensive, multi-part federal effort that combines primary medical care, essential support services, outreach to persons who misuse substances, patient engagement, and access to medications for opioid use disorder,” said Pack, who also serves as associate dean for academic affairs at ETSU’s College of Public Health.
In addition, the panelists will discuss some of the recommendations of the ASPPH Task Force on Public Health Approaches to the Opioid Crisis and how the pandemic might impact the panel’s recommendations.

Anne Hazlett, special advisor for rural affairs with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in the Executive Office of the President;

Brandon Marshall, associate professor at Brown University School of Public Health; and

Regina LaBelle, director of the Addiction & Public Policy Initiative and distinguished scholar at the O’Neill Institute for National & Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
