JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 26, 2020) – Linda Good will lead discussion on “The Woman’s Hour” by Elaine Weiss in a meeting of the East Tennessee State University Women’s Book Club on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

This meeting will begin at noon via Zoom (meeting ID 955 7814 3294). The Women’s Book Club is sponsored by the ETSU Women’s Resource Center and meets once a month during the fall and spring semesters. The club provides a safe, inviting space for anyone (not just women) who loves reading and seeks meaningful discussion.
“The Woman’s Hour” tells the story of the last and necessary vote to ratify the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the vicious opposition from politicians, clergy, corporations and even suffragists who did not want to include Black women in the women’s movement for enfranchisement. These groups feared that suffrage would bring about the nation’s moral collapse.
Good is a leader of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Celebration Coalition of Johnson City. The Washington County native graduated from ETSU in 1969 with a teaching degree and later joined IBM, where she had a long, successful career in sales and management. In 2006, she returned to Johnson City and earned a master’s degree in counseling. She closed her private counseling practice last year and remains active in the community.
