Noland on new video series with Sander, Mike Smith
JOHNSON CITY – (Jan. 25, 2021) The latest episode of From the Locker Room video series features an interview with ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland.
From the Locker Room launched in 2020 and is hosted by Dr. Richard Sander, Director of the Center for Global Sport Leadership at ETSU, and Coach Mike Smith. An ETSU graduate, Smith is former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and has been named NFL Head Coach of the Year on several occasions.
The series focuses on leadership and coaching at the professional and collegiate level. In episode nine, which is being released today, Sander and Smith discuss leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and hear Noland talk about information-gathering tactics, the process for making decisions and a strategy for implementing a plan that reaches a diverse group of constituents.

Sander is a former athletics director at Virginia Commonwealth University and led the ETSU program for over four years. During his tenure, Freedom Hall became the new home for the Buccaneer men’s basketball team and the Buccaneer football team returned to the field. He also established a new doctoral program in global sports leadership and led the athletics staff through a period of record-levels of private fundraising and ticket sales for athletic events.
