JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 24, 2021) — Drawing on musical influences from around the world, award-winning string duo ARKAI will present a genre-defying evening of original composition and arrangements at East Tennessee State University on Friday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the Powell Recital Hall in the Martin Center for the Arts.
Winners of the 2021 Astral Artists National Auditions, ARKAI was formed by Jonathan Miron and Philip Sheegog. Their previous engagements have included performances at The MET Breuer, The Curtis Institute, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the 92nd Street Y. Their electronic debut composition, “Letters from COVID,” was featured at TED@PMI for a global audience of more than 30,000 people from 182 countries.
“We are incredibly excited to host ARKAI at ETSU,” said Dr. Sean Hawthorne, assistant professor of cello at ETSU. “This genre-bending duo has pushed the boundaries of what a violin and cello can do in the most exciting ways. I know our audience will be thrilled by their energy and creativity!”
Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation. The concert will also be livestreamed at youtube.com/watch?v=Iv-zzYigGSU.
