JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 28, 2021) — East Tennessee State University will hold the 2021 Career & Grad School Expo, on Wednesday, Nov. 10, from noon-3 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center.
The event is for all majors and years, including alumni; freshmen, sophomores, and
juniors are encouraged to seek internship opportunities, while seniors and graduate
students can pursue post-graduation employment opportunities. The expo will also cater
to students looking to further their education through a graduate school program.
Eighty employers rooted in a wide variety of industries – health care, broadcasting,
education, federal law enforcement, hospitality, scientific consulting – and graduate
school representatives will be in attendance.
“We usually invite 100 or more employers to hiring events, but to permit social distancing,
we limited it to 80,” University Career Services’ outreach and employment services
coordinator, Ashly Garris, said.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response from local and national employers wanting to recruit
at the career fair because their hiring needs are so significant. What we hope to
do is create a space where our students can connect with employers and cultivate relationships,
find meaningful employment and internships, and make those connections that ultimately
lead to career readiness and success in the labor market.”
Experiential learning is vital when it comes to finding future employment, and ETSU
urges students to graduate with at least one internship under their belt. Employers
are looking for candidates with a college degree and applicable, real-world experience.
All Expo attendees will be required to wear a face covering, regardless of vaccination
status.
The event’s sponsors include State of Franklin Healthcare Associates, Mountain Youth
Academy, Blount Area Jobs and Nova Southeastern University.
