JOHNSON CITY — (January 28, 2022) East Tennessee State University has launched a new program, known as ETSU Heroes, to recognize and reward outstanding members of the university community. Up to six members of the ETSU community will be acknowledged each year in an annual ceremony. The inaugural ETSU Heroes Recognition Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 30.
The ETSU Heroes program is intended to recognize role models within the ETSU community who embody excellence and have contributed significant and innovative accomplishments to the university and the region. ETSU Heroes may be nominated by any peer in the ETSU community.
“A Hero may be known by many or work behind the scenes to advance our mission to improve the lives of people across the region,” said Brian Noland, the president of ETSU. “Their unique experiences and contributions shape our ETSU story.”
At the recognition ceremony, the selected ETSU Heroes will receive an ETSU Heroes medallion and a cash award provided by the ETSU Foundation. Following the ceremony, the stories of the selected ETSU Heroes will be shared and celebrated across campus.
Nominations are open through Friday, February 4. Online submissions are recommended. ETSU faculty and staff are eligible for nomination, including those employed by organizations adjacent to the university, including Sodexo, ETSU Health, and Follett. ETSU students are not eligible for nomination except through a position of employment with the university.
After the close of the nomination period, the nominees will be reviewed by a selection committee. After review, up to six nominees will be selected for the ETSU Heroes award.
