JOHNSON CITY – “Observations, Conversations and Next Steps: LGBTQ+ Individuals Pursuing Justice in a Heteronormative Court System” is the focus of a talk hosted this week by East Tennessee State University.
Part of the “Women on Wednesdays” lecture series sponsored by the ETSU Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, the event is free and open to the public. It takes place on Zoom (Zoom Meeting ID: 817 3675 0048) at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
Drs. Jamie Brown and Mary Langenbrunner will discuss a personal and professional journey of discovery into LGBTQ+ rights in Tennessee, particularly around child custody.
Brown serves as director and coordinator of the graduate program in Human Services at ETSU. Her primary service and research focus is on underserved families, especially on youth violence prevention programs.
Langenbrunner is a professor of Counseling and Humans Services at ETSU for both the undergraduate and graduate Human Services programs. She also advises both the Family Studies and Human Development and Learning minors. In addition, Langenbrunner is a coordinator for the First Judicial District Court Clinic and board member for the First Judicial District Assistance Corporation.
The “Women on Wednesdays” series is designed to raise awareness about research, scholarship and community engagement conducted by women at ETSU. In addition, it provides a venue where women on campus and in the community can discuss and support each other’s work, and it gives students an opportunity to meet faculty who could become mentors for their studies.
