JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University’s Department of Music is hosting two events in mid-February open to students, parents, band directors and more.
Woodwind Day is Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center.
“This is an exciting day filled with performances, master classes, clinics and more,” said Dr. Lisa Perry, an assistant professor in the department.
Several talented performers are on tap for Woodwind Day, including Dr. Erin Cameron, clarinet; Dr. Kristin Leitterman, oboe; Dr. Stephanie Hoeckley, flute; Dr. Elissa Kana, saxophone; and Kristen Smith, bassoon.
The participation fee is $15 and includes all events, lunch and a T-shirt.
High school students are also invited to the Robert LaPella High School Vocal Competition, happening Saturday, Feb. 18, in the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts starting at 10 a.m.
“Mr. Robert LaPella was our beloved voice professor from 1962-1997, and the competition is funded in memory of his legacy and the love of our students,” said Dr. Sun-Joo Oh, a professor in the department. “Applicants need two songs. One must be in English, and a musical theater song is acceptable. The other must be a song or aria in a foreign language.”
