JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 15, 2023) – East Tennessee State University’s online Post-Graduate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program is ranked fourth in the nation by NursePractitionerOnline.com.
ETSU’s PMHNP graduate certificate concentration offers a certificate for nurses who have completed a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Its customized special studies program provides education and clinical training in the PMHNP role. Upon completion, graduates are eligible for the national certification examination.
The NursePractitionerOnline.com 2023 ranking of Online MSN Psychiatric-Mental Health NP Programs highlights the ETSU program’s focus on rural health care delivery and the simulations offered within its online courses.
“Our MSN PMHNP is one of the most sought-after degrees at ETSU’s College of Nursing,” said Dr. Lisa Haddad, associate dean for graduate programs in the college. “Since 2021, we have increased enrollment from 15 to 45 students. In the last year, we have graduated 43 students. We are experiencing a mental health crisis across the nation, with our rural areas having even more need, and graduating this many advanced practice nurses impacts this essential need.”

Maupin, coordinator of the PMHNP program. “Our faculty and staff in the program work extensively to teach and revise our curriculum to adapt to the ever-changing mental health environment. Our graduates continue to play a pivotal role in meeting the mental health needs of our local communities.
