Continue your education this spring through these professional development workshops

The Office of Professional Development is partnering with various academic departments on campus to offer continuing studies programs this spring.

From classroom experiences to public workshops, East Tennessee State University aims to improve the quality of life for the people of this region and beyond. 

The Office of Professional Development at ETSU supports this mission by facilitating workforce development workshops and certificates, youth programs, skill-enhancing courses and more. These opportunities support lifelong learning and help workers stay current with the latest developments, skills and new technologies required for their fields. Continuing education can often lead to better pay and elevated job statuses.  

This spring, The Office of Professional Development is partnering with various academic departments on campus to offer these continuing studies programs: 

Pharmacy Technician Certification Training Course 
Feb. 20–May 16 
6–9 p.m.

This course provides an overview of skills and knowledge required to function successfully as a pharmacy technician. The course may be used for individuals working in retail or a hospital pharmacy, to prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam, or to improve their job skills. 

Mental Health First Aid 
Feb. 27 
8 a.m.–5 p.m.

This groundbreaking, skills-based course teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges. Similar to physical first aid and CPR, mental health first aid helps to assist someone experiencing a crisis until professional assistance is obtained or the crisis is resolved. 

Draw It Out! Progressive Drawing 
March 5–14 
6–8 p.m.

In this beginner-level art course, students will explore the basics of drawing, starting with pencil skills, transitioning into ink pen creations and finalizing lessons with color. All four classes will allow for the same length of time to adapt the skill level and practice for each participant. 

Podcasting for Everyone 
March 8–9 
7–9 p.m.

Participants will learn about and experience each step of the podcast creation process, from idea to production to distribution. Participants will use the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience obtained throughout the workshop to produce their own mini-podcast episode. 

Renaissance Child Spring Enrichment 
March 11–15 
8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Renaissance Child Enrichment programs supplement children’s regular school activities. An emphasis will be placed on STREAM activities: Science, Technology, Recreation/Reading, Engineering, Art and Math.  

2024 Spring Alliance for Continued Learning 
March 19–April 30

The Alliance for Continued Learning is a “member-powered, member-driven and member-governed” organization devoted to providing lifelong learning experiences in a stimulating atmosphere. Participants decide the study groups, forums, classes and other activities to be held; identify leaders for the sessions; and elect officers. 

 The Enneagram and You: Understanding How Personality Types Show Up at Work 
April 13 
10 a.m.–3 p.m.

The course shows attendees how to interpret their personal Enneagram profile, strengths and areas for growth. Participants will explore how their Enneagram profile impacts work-related experiences, including stress and satisfaction. 

ETSU Construction Summit 
May 16–17

This event features presentations covering essential topics in the construction industry, including delivery contracts, workforce development, industry trends, Building Information Modeling, data analytics, prefabrication, sustainability, augmented reality, virtual reality, lean scheduling, drones and innovative construction technology.
