Dr. Marissa Jones

What I think is so valuable about gaining research experience as an undergrad is you first learn “How do you ask a good research question?” And then with each stage of your career, you are just pushing it further and further.

Dr. Nick Hagemeier

We've brought two fairly long-existing programs -- the Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Appalachian Student Research Forum – together to have a day that really celebrates all the work that our students are doing.

They might be undergrad students. They might be clinical doctoral students. They may be postdocs working in a biomedical science lab. It was a great day.

Hayden Howard

I participated in ETSU Research Day. I did an oral presentation in the Boland Symposium. My research surrounds what's called an intervention package or a combined package of teaching strategies to teach learners with disabilities how to write.

We want to encourage teachers to teach writing in their special education classrooms.

Dr. Nick Hagemeier

The skill sets that they learn through doing research are transferrable to any other career. You learn how to think critically. You learn how to problem-solve.

One of the big things that we like to get students to experience on Research Day is communicating your work to somebody that may not be in your field at all, but that's a skill, and that's a skill that will serve you throughout life.

Dr. Rakesh Adelli

My research is primarily focused on maternal and child health. I think ETSU has great opportunities for research, especially for students.

Robert Berger

The research community here at ETSU is unbelievable. And not only do you get to present your own research, but you also get to check out all the other research that aren't necessarily in my same field.

Hayden Howard

I asked if I could attend a research conference with my advisor, and she was able to not only get me into the conference, but to provide funding and make the trip entirely free for me.

Dr. Marissa Jones

I feel that ETSU is very friendly towards first-generation college students such as myself and ETSU offers the McNair Scholar Research Program and also has lots of faculty who are very open to providing mentorship to get students involved.

Dr. Nick Hagemeier

The Research Corporation is doing a fantastic job of connecting inventors to people that are willing to fund those things.

I would encourage students that even if you think research isn't something that you think you're going to like, it can really make you a better human being.

Wherever you find yourself in your career, research can really be impactful.

Trailblazers go where people haven't gone before. They're asking questions that people haven't asked.

Dr. Rakesh Adelli

I say research is important because it goes beyond the classroom. I think research is a trailblazer experience because you get to explore new fields, new trails.

Dr. Nick Hagemeier

ETSU is a community of trailblazers. Be a part of it.
