Dark humor, power struggles and unexpected twists await audiences at East Tennessee State University’s production of “The Moors.”

Written by the acclaimed playwright Jen Silverman, “The Moors” explores the strange and unsettling lives of two sisters and their dog living on the bleak English moors. Their mundane existence is shattered by the arrival of a governess and a moor-hen, setting off a chain of events that blends love, desperation and danger in unpredictable ways.

All performances take place in the Bert C. Bach Theatre at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 24-26. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. Purchase tickets here or call (423) 439-2787 for more information.

“We’re excited to bring this unique production to the ETSU community,” said Ante Ursić, director of “The Moors” and an assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance. “The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this tale to life, and we invite everyone to come experience the intensity and humor of Jen Silverman’s writing.”

The cast includes Molly Blackburn as A Moor-Hen; Lillian Calhoun as Emilie; Elsa Kummer as Huldey; Kaisha Marlow as Agatha; Andy Wolff as The Mastiff; and Olivia Zimanek as Marjory.

“The Moors” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French Inc.

From Concord Theatricals, "Two sisters and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path. The Moors is a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility."
