The Military Times’ 2024 “Best for Vets: Colleges” rankings – a distinguished list highlighting top institutions for service to military members and veterans – has recognized East Tennessee State University.

Less than 10% of colleges and universities in the United States earn this honor.

ETSU joins 303 other campus locations awarded this designation, underscoring the university’s dedication to providing military-affiliated students with the support, resources and community they need to thrive.

Throughout the years, military-affiliated students at ETSU have spoken highly of the support received through units like ETSU’s Department of Military and Veterans Services.

“The staff has always been friendly and has given me advice for my military career,” said Kenton Rowe. “The Military and Veteran Services at ETSU has helped me tremendously.”

ETSU’s comprehensive approach to supporting veterans includes priority registration, access to a dedicated Military-Affiliated Student Resource Center and membership in the ETSU chapter of the Student Veterans of America. These resources, along with personalized support from the Military and Veteran Services office, reflect a common goal: make the university a welcoming home for those who have served.

Earlier this year, the institution unveiled a wave of new training opportunities in support of that mission.

The university also offers financial aid options for veterans, including out-of-state tuition waivers, scholarships and work-study positions for those using the GI Bill® benefits.

“This recognition by Military Times reflects our commitment to honoring and supporting the military-affiliated students who are part of our ETSU family,” said Dan Bishop, director of Military and Veteran Services. “We strive to go beyond simply meeting their needs – we aim to create an environment where they can excel academically, professionally and personally.”

The university has a long and established history of helping veterans and has secured the respected Military Friendly® designation for more than a decade.
