JOHNSON CITY – (May 14, 2019) University School is ranked as the ninth best high school in Tennessee by U.S. News & World Report in its “Best High Schools” listing.
Located on the campus of East Tennessee State University, University School is the only school in Northeast Tennessee ranked in the top 10, and is also the highest ranked school east of Chattanooga.
“We are so proud of the accomplishments our students are making each day in the classrooms, in their organizations, in their community, and on the athletic fields,” said Ariane Day, interim director of University School.
“It is such an honor for University School to be recognized at this level, and much credit goes to our faculty and staff for all they do to provide exceptional instruction and to support our students.”
In July 1996, University School became the first K-12 laboratory school in the nation to implement a year-round calendar.
According to U.S. News, rankings were determined based on performance on state assessments and on how well the schools prepare students for college. University School is one of 347 schools in Tennessee listed in the rankings.
