Min Fan, MD, PhD, was selected to receive the Research Investigator Fellowship at the 46th Annual Conference on Shock held in Portland, Oregon, June 17-20, 2023.She was selected from an international pool of applicants.
Dr. Melanie Scott, MD, PhD, Treasurer and 2023 President-elect of the Shock Society, and Dr. Anthony Pusateri, PhD, the Awards and Honors Committee Chair of the Shock Society, presented the award during the awards banquet on June 20. The Research Investigator Fellowship is a competitive award supporting early-career individuals who have recently completed postgraduate degrees and who plan to conduct research related to trauma, shock, or sepsis. The award will be $22,000 over one year, with $2,000 dedicated to travel to the Shock Society Annual Meetings for 2 years. Dr. Fan will present the results of her research orally at the US Shock Society Annual Meeting in 2024. In addition, she will have one year tenure on the Shock Society Awards and Honors Committee. Her planned research will focus on determining the long-lasting immunosuppressive function of lactate-induced myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in sepsis and the mechanisms by which lactate promotes MDSC expansion.
