“Exploring the predictors of COVID-19 vaccination uptake among people living with HIV/AIDS in Tennessee” was recently published in Discover Public Health. The article examines COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Tennessee and indicates that a higher percentage of PLWHA exhibited COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy than the general population.Individuals who had achieved viral suppression, which is an indicator of regular encounters with health care providers, also displayed this type of hesitancy related to the COVID-19 vaccine, with younger individuals reporting increased vaccine hesitancy. Significant hesitancy was also associated with the Western region of the state, and among all people who inject drugs (PWID). These data were determined using datasets from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) HIV surveillance and the COVID-19 immunization dataset, which is a combined dataset using the enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System (eHARS) database and the COVID-19 immunization dashboard.
Corresponding author Charles Olomofe attained his Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from East Tennessee State University and completed a portion of his dissertation research at the ETSU HIV Center of Excellence.He is now an assistant professor in the Department of Health, Physical, and Secondary Education at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
