The East Tennessee State University Center for Rural Health and Research (CRHR) has released its 2026 Annual Report, highlighting a year of expanded research, strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives that are helping improve health and well-being in rural communities across Tennessee, Appalachia and the nation.
The report showcases the center's continued growth and impact during the past year. CRHR secured seven new projects totaling more than $1.3 million, expanded collaborations with state and national partners, launched new data tools and provided research and evaluation expertise for initiatives designed to strengthen rural health systems and improve access to care.
The annual report also highlights CRHR's broad portfolio of research, evaluation and community engagement activities. From informing state and federal policy to evaluating major public health investments and developing practical, data-driven resources for local communities, the center continues to support evidence-based solutions to challenges facing rural America, including health care access, workforce shortages, aging populations and economic change.
"The work highlighted in this report reflects our commitment to conducting research that not only advances knowledge but also helps communities, policymakers and health leaders make informed decisions," said Michael Meit, director of the Center for Rural Health and Research. "We are proud to partner with organizations across Tennessee and the nation to improve health outcomes and strengthen rural communities."
The 2026 Annual Report provides an overview of the center's projects, publications,
presentations, service activities and accomplishments during the past year, demonstrating
CRHR's ongoing commitment to ensuring rural perspectives are reflected in the policies,
programs and investments that shape the future of rural health.
