The College of Public Health is Well-Represented at the Appalachian Student Research Forum

The Appalachian Student Research Forum is a premier regional opportunity for students to present their research projects through oral and poster presentations.

The year, the Forum was held in conjunction with the Jay W. Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium.  The 2024 version of the ASRF hosted 34 oral presentations and 188 poster presentations.  The Boland Symposium added a further 66 presentations.

The College of Public Health was remarkably well represented, with 12 of 34 (35%) of ASRF oral presentations and 44 of 188 (23%) of ASRF poster presentations—representing over a quarter of all presentations at the ASRF.  Including the Boland Symposium, the College was responsible for 64 of 288 (22%) of all presentations at both events—representing the work of 29 different faculty and 78 different students.

“Having almost half of our faculty mentoring student research is a tremendous reflection on our commitment to providing students an exceptional educational experience,” said Dean Randy Wykoff.  “Perhaps most impressive is the fact that students in the College received almost a quarter of the  awards that were presented for excellence, when our student population represents less than seven percent of the University’s total enrollment.”

“I can’t thank our faculty and staff enough for their commitment to educating and mentoring students, and to preparing them for a rapidly changing workforce.” Wykoff added.
