We are thrilled to congratulate Emily Weyant Blevins on being awarded Academic Librarian
of the Year for the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association. Emily serves
the ETSU Medical Library as a Senior Clinical Reference Librarian and Assistant Professor.
This award recognizes excellence in academic health sciences librarianship. Emily
is a great asset to our team and has done a wonderful job keeping our library research
agenda going, especially during "the COVID years." Emily conceptualized and initiated
the winning research project described below.
Congratulations also to our librarian team on their 1st place research paper at the
recent joint meeting of the Southern Chapter and South Central Chapters of the Medical
Library Association! These chapters represent the medical librarians of Alabama,
Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virgin Islands.
Emily W. Blevins, Nakia J. Woodward, Kelly Loyd, Aaron S. Castle, Rachel R. Walden, and Rick L. Wallace all contributed to the winning paper, "An Examination of Indexing: The Case of Appalachia." This research explored literature about Appalachia found in PubMed and the ways in which use of MeSH indexing and keywords facilitate or hinder finding published research about our region. A video presentation of the research project and findings is available on YouTube.
