ETSU Student Pharmacist hosts Scouts Day

Scouts Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 10, 2023)—ETSU Gatton College of Pharmacy’s American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists Patient Care Operations committee hosted local Girl Scout troops and facilitated learning activities for the scouts to participate in related to first aid and each operations mission.

Operation Heart & Diabetes explained how to handle urgent first aid issues, like an epi-pen for allergic reaction). The scouts participated in an interactive science experiment to show how blood flows and how it can be stopped in the case of an emergency. The girls made their very own portable first aid kit to take home.

Operation OTC Medication Safety demonstrated which OTC products treat things like cuts and burns and explained each of the products in their portable first aid kits and how to use them. Furthermore, they demonstrated how Tums work in the stomach with a science experiment.

Operation Womens Health encouraged the girls to draw what they wanted to be when they grow up and taught them about important women in health care.

Operation Immunization allowed the girls to design their own "germ" and performed a science experiment to show how to "control the spread of infection".

Operation Substance Use Disorders demonstrated how to perform CPR and the importance of blood and platelets with an interactive demonstration. They also played a game called “Candy vs. Medicine” to educate them on the importance of medication safety.

Finally, the scout were able to compound calamine lotion and lotion sticks to take home with them.
