Presidential Ambassadors
The Presidential Ambassadors are members of an honorary service organization unique among student groups at East Tennessee State University.
Since the organizations inception in 1978, Presidential Ambassadors have volunteered to assist their university. The group is comprised of 50 members, each with at least a 3.0 grade point average. They are nominated by faculty, staff, or current Presidential Ambassadors. During a typical selection process, more than 100 student names are placed in nomination. Of those, some 60 are interviewed by a panel of Ambassadors and ETSU staff, and about half of those individuals are invited to join the organization.
The group brings together representatives of all class years and a wide variety of majors. International scholars and non-traditional students can be found within the ranks as well.
During the academic year, Presidential Ambassadors serve anywhere there is a need. Members assist ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland at official functions held at the presidential residence, Shelbridge, and they serve as ushers at commencement exercises. During the 2016-2017 academic year, members, each working at a few events per semester, collectively amassed more than 250 volunteer hours.
