Kate is a senior in our journalism program, and she minors in dance. Feature writing, photography, art/dance and local news are her primary interests for a future career in journalism.
Kate is the 2020-21 executive editor for the East Tennessean, and she wrote for Overlooked In Appalachia during the fall 2019 semester. She recently won second place in the News Story category and third-place in the Online Specialized/Topic Reporting category of the 2019 Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters and Media Editors College Contest. Kate completed a news internship for Oak Ridge Today in summer of 2019.
“My experience in the Department of Media and Communication has honestly been amazing,” she said. “Through this program I have gotten opportunities both in and outside of the classroom. Writing for the East Tennessean has been one of the greatest experiences of my college career so far, and I have learned so much through writing for them. In terms of class, I have gotten to work with professors who genuinely care about me and my education. I have felt so supported all the way, and these classes make me excited for what my future holds in the world of journalism.”
Kate is a Fine and Performing Arts Scholar in the ETSU Honors College and co-captain of the ETSU Dance Team. Additionally, she teaches and choreographs for a local dance studio in Johnson City called The Dance Company, and she is also the coach for the Liberty Bell Middle School Dance Team.
