Dr. Brynna Paros joined the faculty at ETSU in the fall of 2025 as Assistant Professor of Flute. She brings a multifaceted background as a performer, educator, and researcher. Her performance career encompasses solo, chamber, and orchestral work, with appearances as a flutist with the Sinfonia da Camera, the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and as an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has performed and studied at leading summer festivals including the Aspen Music Festival and the Domaine Forget International Music Academy in Québec. Solo highlights include Frank Martin’s Ballade with the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra, as winner of the Concerto and Aria Competition, and Roger Zare’s Breathless with the Hindsley Symphonic Band. In 2025, she was also named a finalist in the Krannert Debut Artist Competition.
An enthusiastic and versatile teacher, Paros has worked in both university and pre-college settings. At the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, she served as a graduate teaching assistant, mentoring undergraduate flutists and leading public speaking courses, an experience that continues to inform her approach to pedagogy. She has also taught young musicians through the Illinois Summer Youth Music program and maintains an active private studio.
Her research bridges music performance and psychology, with particular interest in audience engagement and music perception. Drawing on her background in both disciplines, she investigates how elements such as program notes, familiarity, and concert context shape audience experiences.
Dr. Paros earned both her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Flute Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studying under Jonathan Keeble. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Oregon, where her principal teachers were Jacqueline Cordova-Arrington and Molly Barth. Her additional training includes studies with Demarre McGill, Mark Sparks, and Nadine Asin.
